MANSFIELD — Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Principal Russ Booth are pleased to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Mansfield High School Class of 2023.
The valedictorian for the graduating class is Amelia Allen and the salutatorian is Drew Sacco.
“I am pleased to recognize 2023 Mansfield High School valedictorian Amelia Allen and salutatorian Drew Sacco,” said Superintendent Murphy. “Both Allen and Sacco have been exceptional examples to their peers and truly represent what it means to be a student here at Mansfield High School.”
Amelia Allen
In addition to excelling in academics, Allen is passionate about theater and enjoys expressing herself through dramatic and comedic plays, as well as musicals. She is also involved in set design and an improv troupe.
She is an active community volunteer and currently serves as captain of the Mansfield High School Math Team. Allen’s academic success is also noted by her membership in the National Honor Society.
During her high school career, she was a member of the Mansfield High School Cross Country Team.
She has been recognized as a recipient of the Mansfield High School Golden Hornet Award for the past three years and was previously awarded the Harvard Book Award.
Next fall, Allen will enroll in the honors college at North Carolina State University to study biomedical engineering with a minor in ethics.
Drew Sacco
In addition to his impressive academic standing, Sacco played for various Mansfield sports teams during his high school career. Sacco has played four years of football and lacrosse during his high school career and served as captain of the lacrosse team. He was recently named MIAA student-athlete of the month.
Sacco is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. He has dedicated significant time to volunteer work and currently serves as a peer tutor.
Sacco previously earned the Tom Souza Scholar-Athlete Award, presented by the Gridiron Club for academic excellence, leadership and community service. Additionally, Sacco was the recipient of the Mansfield High School Golden Hornet Award for the last three years. He has previously been awarded the World Language Department Academic Excellence Award and the Yale Book Award.
Next fall, he will be attending the Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in geosciences.
“Congratulations to both Amelia and Drew on this outstanding achievement,” said Principal Booth. “Both students have had great academic and extracurricular success during their time at Mansfield High School and I am confident that they both have bright and promising futures ahead of them.”
