HANSON — Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak and Whitman-Hanson Regional High School art instructor Christina Maher would like to introduce the five remaining seniors ahead of the Senior Art Showcase.
Whitman-Hanson Regional High School will hold its Senior Art Showcase on Tuesday, May 23, from 5-7 p.m. at the High School Library, 600 Franklin St. During the showcase, eight seniors will have their artwork on display. The event will be cash only and the proceeds from the sales of plates and dinner will benefit the Whitman and Hanson food pantries.
Information about the event and the three previously announced seniors can be found here.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting this event next week as it is a display of our seniors’ hard work and dedication to their artwork throughout their high school careers,” Maher said. “We encourage community members to join us for a great evening of art, music, food and more.”
Malia Avery
“Malia Avery is equally talented working in both 2D and 3D media,” said Maher. “She is imaginative, isn’t afraid to take risks and challenges herself to go beyond her previous limits. She works independently and sets high standards for herself and her art.”
Avery plans on attending college to study neuroscience to further research a cure or treatment for chronic migraines. She plans to continue making artwork in college and to make artwork for loved ones.
Kylie Lasky
“Kylie Lasky regularly combines visual arts with her writing to create very expressive work,” said Maher. “To her credit, Kylie takes the initiative to create work at home even when it is not for an assignment.”
Lasky plans to attend Massasoit Community College to obtain her associate’s degree and then study psychology at the University of Rhode Island to become a cognitive behavioral therapist. Lasky says she is extremely passionate about music, writing, painting and creating something out of nothing with her artwork.
Jacqueline Rivera
“Jacqueline Rivera has focused her talents in the areas of computer graphics and, most recently, ceramics,” said Maher. “She works independently to use the materials to express her vision and has learned and persevered to express herself through the arts.”
Rivera plans to attend art school after graduation and then study social work at a community college. Rivera says her experience with art has been amazing and she would like to create and focus solely on digital artwork in the future.
Joslynn Rochon
“Joslynn Rochon has proven to be a talented artist who works hard to develop her craft in a diverse range of media from drawing and painting to ceramics,” said Maher.
Rochon plans to attend Massasoit after graduation to study nursing. She will continue to make art in her free time, such as painting and drawing. Rochon says that the two art classes she’s taken at WHRHS have taught her so much and that it has been very valuable expressing herself through her artwork while still following course assignments.
Eryka Ingram
“Eryka Ingram has taken many art classes at Whitman-Hanson and played an active role on the Executive Board of the Art in Action Club,” said Maher. “She has won several regional and state awards over the years and participated in the Memory Project.”
Ingram plans to attend the University of Massachusetts – Amherst to study both sports management with a photography focus and film studies with a screenwriting focus. Following graduation at UMASS, Ingram plans to pursue her master’s degree. Ingram says that art is a huge part of who she is and will always be. She is very grateful for the skills she’s learned while cultivating her artistic talents throughout the years of studying art.
Community members will be able to see each student’s artwork at the showcase.
