MAYNARD — Chief Michael Noble is pleased to welcome the newest comfort dog to the Maynard Police Department.
Otis, a 10-week-old chocolate lab, will officially join the Department on Feb. 8. as part of the new Maynard Police comfort dog program.
Otis will spend most of his time on shift in Maynard Public Schools with School Resource Officer Allison McCann. Otis will help with de-escalation, and provide comfort to children in need who may be experiencing or have experienced trauma.
He will also visit senior centers and assisted living facilities. Otis will be a regular presence at community events.
Otis comes from Puddleduck Labradors in Morrill, Maine, and will begin basic obedience training once in Maynard.
Chief Noble and the Maynard Police Department wish to thank the community partners for donations and support that have made Otis’s arrival possible.
Maynard Veterinary Care, 15 Digital Way, Unit 4., has generously offered to donate routine veterinary visits to the Maynard comfort dog program.
Middlesex Savings Bank also made a significant donation to the program.
Residents who wish to donate to the program can send a check to the Maynard Police Association. Checks must include “K-9 Program” in the memo line. Donations will be used toward training, equipment, food, and emergency care if needed.
