GREENFIELD — The Greater Commonwealth Virtual School (GCVS) is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year, and hosting several virtual open house events to provide information to interested families.
The Greater Commonwealth Virtual School is a public school of choice serving students from across Massachusetts who need a learning community that is accessible and flexible. GCVS gives students and their families choices in what, how, when, and where they learn.
GCVS has a total capacity of 1,200 students. Application for the 2022-2023 school year is open for select grades with a waitlist for grades that are fully enrolled.
The application deadline for the initial 2023-2024 school year lottery is Feb. 10, with a lottery scheduled for Feb. 15. Additional applications will be accepted with new lotteries being held every two weeks. Please see the website for application deadlines and additional lottery dates.

The Greater Commonwealth Virtual School accepts all students from Massachusetts, but also provides enrollment preference to students with certain needs, including:
- Students who are unable to attend school in-person due to a medical condition
- Students who are out of school due to bullying or other safety concerns
- Students with disabilities
- Students out of school due to pregnancy or parenting
- Students who seek an advanced coursework not available in their current school
- Students in training for competitive arts or sports whose schedules prevent them from attending school on a regular basis
- Students of currently enrolled siblings
“GCVS is unique in that while we are a large school, we really get to know our students and their families from application through to the classroom. We have that community feel where ‘everyone knows your name’ even though our students are from all parts of the state,” said Enrollment and Recruitment Specialist Stephanie Powers. “We also offer excellent, comprehensive academics, clubs, and frequent opportunities for in-person get togethers. I encourage anyone interested in a virtual education to attend one of our Open Houses or schedule an appointment to speak with our Enrollment Department staff.”
