BELMONT – Chief David DeStefano has announced that the Belmont Fire Department has chosen a new public educator/community liaison.
Capt. David DeMarco is a 28-year member of the department. He will meet with community groups, coordinate public CPR classes and help with the Belmont Fire Department’s community risk reduction program, as well as the Student Awareness of Fire Education (SAFE) programs. He has worked for 14 years with the state Department of Fire Services’ Public Education Unit.
In addition to his education work, Capt. DeMarco works in the Operations Division as a shift commander.
“Capt. DeMarco will be a valuable asset working with our SAFE and Senior SAFE instructors as well as developing new initiatives to address all aspects of community risk,” said Chief DeStefano. “Public education and engagement are a significant commitment of ours because they are so important to ensuring our community is mindful of fire safety. I’m confident that Capt. DeMarco will have a positive impact in advancing that work.”
Public education is a key component of the Belmont Fire Department’s activities. “Hot Topics with the Belmont Fire Department,” hosted by Chief DeStefano and Capt. DeMarco, airs regularly on Belmont Media Center. The Belmont Fire Department also offers CPR classes and home safety inspections throughout the community.
