NAHANT — Chief Austin Antrim reports that the Nahant Fire Department and mutual aid partners extinguished a two-alarm fire at Oceanview Nahant on Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Jan. 25, at approximately 1:32 p.m., Nahant Firefighters were called to the Oceanview Nahant, 0 Willow Road, for a report of an alarm activation.
The first responding companies were on scene at 1:36 p.m., and found smoke showing from the kitchen area of a large banquet facility.
Crews stretched a line into the kitchen to attack the flames inside the building, and by 2:10 p.m. had the bulk of the fire knocked down. After firefighters ensured the fire had not extended to other parts of the building, the fire was declared under control at 2:26 p.m.
There were no reported injuries. The kitchen area of the banquet and function facility suffered heavy fire damage. The origin and cause remain under investigation by the Nahant Fire Department.
Firefighters from Lynn, Marlbehead and Swampscott provided mutual aid at the scene, and firefighters from Lynnfield, Revere and Salem covered Nahant stations.
“Firefighters Papagelis and Canty arrived on the first engine and did an excellent job getting a hose line to the seat of the fire quickly. Their quick actions prevented the fire from extending further into the building,” said Chief Antrim “We are very grateful for the assistance from all of the mutual aid firefighters who are critical at incidents like this because our staffing is so limited.”
