CONCORD — Chief Thomas Judge and the Concord Fire Department would like to congratulate Capt. David Curran on his retirement following a 47-year career in the fire service.

Capt. Curran began his firefighting career as a volunteer with the Concord Fire Department in 1976, and became a call firefighter in 1978. He eventually joined the department full-time in 1981. He held the rank of lieutenant from 1992-2000, and served as captain for 23 years before retiring.

His last shift with the Concord Fire Department was Friday, Jan. 20.

Capt. Curran also worked on state hazardous materials teams and served as an instructor with the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services and Massachusetts Department of Public Health and at the Virginia Office of Fire Training’s Heavy and Technical Rescue School. He also continues to serve as track services Infield Fire and Rescue liaison with NASCAR.

“It was an honor to work alongside Capt. Curran and to see him make such a meaningful impact within the community while also educating his fellow firefighters,” Chief Judge said. “We wish him nothing but the best during his retirement and thank him for the loyalty and dedication he showed to Concord and its citizens these last 47 years.”
