BELMONT – Chief David DeStefano reports that the Belmont Fire Department recently placed in service 40 new air packs that will provide Belmont firefighters with greater safety.
The new Scott X3 5.5 air packs are self-contained breathing apparatuses that provide Belmont firefighters with the latest technology in personal alert safety systems as well as a longer duration air supply — 45 minutes — to help comply with current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for air management.
“We would like to thank Belmont residents for supporting us in this important capital purchase,” said Chief DeStefano. “These air packs will allow our firefighters to work more safely and with greater efficiency to help save the lives and property of Belmont residents.”
Firefighters only had to wait a few days before putting the new air packs to good use at a fire in a condominium unit on Lexington Street on Tuesday evening.
