WOBURN – Principal Judy Merra is pleased to share that students at Linscott-Rumford Elementary School have been learning about the science of sustainability through a bi-monthly workshop series.
Educators from Change is Simple have visited the school every other month since November 2022 to lead students in Grades 2-5 through the “Change is Simple: Science of Sustainability” program.
The latest workshop in the series was held on Tuesday, Jan. 3. During the day, students used a large world map to analyze how far fruits and vegetables are transported from other countries before they reach local grocery stores in Woburn. The interactive lesson allowed students to consider the impacts that transporting food from across the globe has on the environment.
“Thank you to Change is Simple and the Linscott-Rumford PTO for making this informative and engaging series possible,” Principal Merra said. “With each lesson led by Change is Simple, our students are learning more and more about climate change and sustainability. It is so important for our students to be aware of these timely issues because they will likely have an impact on future generations.”
Change is Simple is a non-profit dedicated to bringing modern, relevant climate education to elementary schools in greater Boston. The curriculum taught by Change is Simple aligns with the state science standards. Lessons are tailored to the learning expectations of each grade level and are designed to build in scope and complexity visit after visit.
The program is funded by the Linscott-Rumford PTO.
