MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson, Principal Michael Devoll and Athletic Director Bill Tilden are pleased to share that Old Rochester Regional High School’s boys golf Coach Chris Cabe has been honored following the team’s outstanding 2022 season.
Cabe was recently named Coach of the Year for Division 2 by the Boston Globe.
Cabe was recognized with the honor following the 2022 season. In October, Cabe’s team won the Division 2 state championship — a program first — and capped off a 14-0 regular season.
Cabe has been the team’s head coach since 2012 and has an overall record of 155-17. The team was also a state finalist in 2014, 2017, 2021, and 2022, and league champion in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022.
“Chris does an amazing job working with all the kids in the program so that each and every year he has a strong team,” Director Tilden said. “He excels at breaking the game down and getting the kids to work on developing their skills, while also giving them confidence in their long and short game.”
Cabe also served as the school’s junior varsity coach from 2004 to 2011.
“Chris has had a tremendous impact on our boys golf team as head coach and has helped dozens of players over the years achieve their best,” Principal Devoll said. “This accolade is well-deserved and we are pleased to see him recognized for his work.”
Added Superintendent Nelson: “Our boys golf team has excelled under Coach Cabe’s leadership, and the team’s achievements this year made for a terrific and historic season. Chris is an asset to our Athletic Department and school community as a whole, and I congratulate him on all that he has accomplished.”
