ANDOVER – Superintendent John Lavoie is pleased to announce that Greater Lawrence Technical Regional High School senior Edgar Martinez has been selected to represent the Commonwealth as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) nominee for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
Each year, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognizes up to 161 of the country’s most exceptional students. The program was expanded to include and celebrate the accomplishments of students studying career and technical education in 2015.
Presidential Scholars in CTE are selected for outstanding scholarship and demonstrated ability and accomplishment in their respective career and technical education fields. Nominees are selected from each state based on their academic rigor, technical competence, employability skills, and ingenuity and creativity.
Martinez, of Lawrence, is a student in the Greater Lawrence Tech’s Dental Assisting program.
Martinez is a member of the National Honor Society, 2023 Senior Class President and is ranked number one in his class holding a GPA of 4.43.
Additionally, Martinez is currently enrolled in Greater Lawrence Tech’s concurrent program with Middlesex Community College where he has received nine credits toward an undergraduate degree.
Outside of academics, Martinez is OSHA and CPR/First Aid certified, an MIAA Student Ambassador, Rising Leader Mentor, Big Future Ambassador, a member of the GLTS Gender and Sexuality Alliance, and a member of the Cheerleading team, where he earned the spot of captain this year.
“I am so proud of Edgar’s hard work and accomplishments, especially getting selected for this nationwide program,” said GLTS Guidance Counselor Tim Cusack. “Through his academics and extracurriculars, Edgar has developed extraordinary communication and leadership skills, and I am confident he will continue to do great things in the next chapter of his life.”
“To me, this nomination is significant because it illustrates my hard work and dedication throughout my high school years,” said Martinez. “To be acknowledged at such a prestigious level has been an honor and I am beyond grateful to be given this opportunity. I am excited to continue my journey, with the understanding that my potential has been recognized through this nomination.”
