STOUGHTON — Chief Donna McNamara would like to share the funeral arrangements for media members who wish to cover the services for Stoughton Police Officer Christopher A. Davis.
There will be two services: A wake and visiting hours on Sunday, Jan. 8, and a funeral Mass on Monday, Jan. 9.
Media members are invited to attend the wake and law enforcement walk-by on Sunday, and cover the procession route on Monday. No members of the Stoughton Police Department nor the Davis family will be addressing the media during the services Sunday or Monday.
Out of respect for those in attendance, media are asked to adhere to guidelines and staging information. If media members have additional questions regarding coverage of any of the below arrangements, please contact 781-428-3299. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Officer Davis, age 42 and a 17-year veteran of the Stoughton Police Department, died while off-duty on Saturday, Dec. 31. Officer Davis spent most of his career on the midnight-to-8 a.m. shift, until recently moving to the 8 a.m.-to-4p.m. shift. He had been awarded numerous commendations from the SPD during his 17 years of service, including a Distinguished Service Award in 2012.
Over the past five years, he has been a dedicated member of the Stoughton Police Special Operations Unit, representing the Department with the utmost professionalism throughout the region. He was also the department’s defensive tactics instructor and has served as a certified arson investigator since 2011, representing the police department in investigating fire incidents with the Stoughton Fire Department.
Prior to serving the Stoughton community, Officer Davis proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force Security Forces in Iraq. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and received several awards which include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with one service star, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
Wake and Law Enforcement Walk-by
On Sunday, visiting hours for relatives and friends will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the St. James Catholic Church, 560 Page St., Stoughton.
A law enforcement walk-by will take place at 2:30 p.m.
Members of the media are asked to stage across from St. James Catholic Church, in the parking lot of Page Place Condominiums, at 545 Page St. The law enforcement walk-by will be visible entering the Church from the staging area.
Parts of Page Street will be closed throughout the day during services.
Media is not permitted to park at the Church.
There will be no media access inside the Church for the wake.
Funeral Mass
The funeral Mass will be held Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the St. James Catholic Church, 560 Page St., Stoughton.
Members of the media are asked to stage across from St. James Catholic Church, in the parking lot of Page Place Condominiums, at 545 Page St.
Media is not permitted to park at the Church.
Parts of Page Street will be closed throughout the day during services.
The funeral Mass will be closed to the media.
Following the funeral service, a procession will leave the church and travel to Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne where Officer Davis will be buried with military honors.
From St. James Catholic Church, the procession route will be as follows: southeast on Page Street toward Page Terrace, right onto Route 139, right onto Central Street where the Stoughton Department of Public Works employees will be outside during the , left on Washington Street, right onto School Street, left onto Rose Street, and will stop at the Stoughton Police Department for Officer Davis’ last call.
The procession will continue from the police station through Stoughton Center where Stoughton Fire Rescue will be posted with the American Flag.
The procession will then continue and proceed left onto Route 27, slight right onto Route138/Route 27 and slight left onto Route 27. The procession will then reach Route 24 and continue onto Bourne.
Burial
The burial service is private for family members, friends and the Stoughton Police Department only. Media members are respectfully asked to not attend the burial.

DAVIS, Christopher Allan, age 42 of Brockton, formerly of Stoughton, Active Duty Police Officer, Stoughton Police/Special Operations passed away suddenly on December 31, 2022. Born July 26, 1980, the devoted son of Rosemarie “Lola” (Damata) and the late Allan S. Davis. Beloved fiancé of Renee Vargas. Loving father of Jessica Chasteen and her husband Josh of Texas. Grandfather of Ariael Ramiel and Merlin Grant Chasteen. Cherished brother of Matthew Davis and his partner Le Cheung of Stoughton. Dear Grandson of Thelma Henry and the late Madeline and Patrick Damata. Chris is also survived by Renee’s father Luis Vargas and his late wife Mary Ellen as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Chris was a 17-year veteran of the Stoughton Police Department most recently assigned to Mobile Operations. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force Security Forces in Iraq. He will be remembered for his kindness, bravery, dedication, devotion to his family, friends, the men and women of the Stoughton Police and the Stoughton Community. His love and respect for others had no boundaries. Colleagues from other towns who had the privilege to work with Chris quickly realized that not only was he an incredible officer, but also a true gentleman. Despite the busy schedule of public service, Chris always found time for his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours in St. James Catholic Church, 560 Page Street, Stoughton on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the church on Monday January 9th at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
