New Traffic Patterns in Place Beginning Jan. 3 for Blanche Ames Elementary, Easton Middle School

EASTON — Superintendent Lisha Cabral, Blanche Ames Elementary School Principal Sam Cederbaum and Easton Middle School Principal Luke Carroll wish to remind families of the new traffic patterns that will be in place for Easton Middle School and the new Blanche A. Ames Elementary as students and staff return following winter break.

“We are thrilled that the opening of the new Blanche A. Ames Elementary School is upon us, and look forward to the excitement that the next few months will bring as students and staff explore and discover all the wonderful things about our new building,” Principal Cederbaum said. “We have greatly appreciated the cooperation, understanding and patience of our families throughout the construction and transition process.”

Beginning Jan. 3 at the new Blanche Ames Elementary (below), all parent drop off and pick up will take place via Columbus Avenue.

Buses and Pre-K vehicles only will be able to enter the property on the east side of the building, via Bengston Street, for pick up and drop off in the rear of the building. Only buses and staff will be able to enter the rear driveway via Lothrop Street. The school’s rear driveway will be one-way traffic only.

All walkers must access the school via Lothrop Street.

Beginning Jan. 3 at Easton Middle School (below), bus drop off will take place in the rear of the building as usual, and buses will exit via Columbus Avenue. Parent drop off and pick up will be via the access road or Lothrop Street/Columbus Avenue.

Importantly, with the new traffic flow, there will be no more queueing for drivers through the middle school parking lot.

Drivers should also note that there will be no access for either school via Spooner Street.

“As traffic patterns change around the Easton Middle School and Blanche Ames Elementary, we again ask for drivers’ patience and flexibility as everyone works to adjust to the new routes,” Superintendent Cabral said. “Staff will be observing drop off and pick up operations closely at both schools and will make any necessary adjustments to ensure the traffic patterns are as safe and efficient as possible.”

Traffic patterns for Blanche Ames Elementary will change again once the demolition of Parkview Elementary and construction of the new fields are complete, which is expected this spring. The details of those changes will be communicated to families as they become available.
