TYNGSBOROUGH — Superintendent-Director Jill Davis and Assistant Superintendent/ Principal Michael Barton are pleased to announce the Greater Lowell Technical High School Fall students of the month.
The following students have been selected as Students of the Month for Fall 2022. Each student displayed characteristics of Greater Lowell Tech’s core values, R.E.A.C.H., by showing Respect, Effort, Accountability, Commitment, and Honesty among their peers and in classes.
September Students of the Month:
Senior Student of the Month Mali Vongphoumy.
- Mali is a Lowell resident and came to Greater Lowell from Lowell Catholic. Mali is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and is pursuing a challenging academic schedule that includes Advanced Placement courses in English, Statistics, and Biology. Additionally, Mali has completed coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through Greater Lowell Tech’s partnership with Quincy College. She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and is ranked fourth in her class with a GPA of 4.30. Mali is an active member of the Dance Club, Student Ambassador program, and previously served on Student Council. Mali actively participates in community service activities and has participated in the Lowell City of Lights Parade and Baystate Marathon Water Station Crew. Mali embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of accountability, effort, and commitment through her leadership in her technical area and her dedication to the school community. Mali is described as a student who always puts forth effort above and beyond what is required and who is a role model to other students. Following graduation, Mali is planning to continue her education and pursue a career in the medical field.
Senior Student of the Month, Ashley Mills
- Ashley is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell from Richardson Middle School. Ashley is majoring in Painting and Design Technology. She is pursuing a rigorous academic schedule, including honors-level coursework in English, Pre-Calculus, and Physics. Ashley has also completed coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through Greater Lowell Tech’s partnership with Quincy College. She has earned honor roll grades since entering Greater Lowell and maintains an overall GPA of 4.12. Ashley is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and a member of the Varsity Softball team. In addition, Ashley is an active member, competitor, and shop leader in SkillsUSA. She has assisted her shop in winning first place in the Community Outreach Challenge, in addition to winning in-house and district medals for her technical proficiency. Ashley embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of commitment, effort, and respect daily. Her technical instructor describes her as a driven student who demonstrates leadership, professionalism, and pride. Following graduation, Ashley plans to continue in the design field and pursue additional coursework in interior design and business management.
Junior Student of the Month Belinda Chavezhas.
- Belinda is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from Sullivan Middle School. Belinda is majoring in Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing. She maintains an overall GPA of 4.18 and pursues a challenging academic course load which includes Honors English, Honors Algebra 2, and Honors Anatomy and Physiology. Belinda is a member of SkillsUSA and will be inducted into the National Honor Society/National Technical Honor Society in November. She is also a member of the Junior Varsity Tennis Team. Belinda embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of honesty, effort, and commitment. She is described by her technical instructor as an outstanding student with tenacity and grit, who is always seeking opportunities to learn and grow. After graduation, Belinda is hoping to continue her education at Tufts University and pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Sophomore Student of the Month Isabella Vierahas
- Isabella is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell from Richardson Middle School. Isabella is majoring in Painting and Design Technology and is ranked seventh in her class with an overall GPA of 4.50. She is pursuing honors-level coursework in English, History, and Geometry, as well as Dual Enrollment Chemistry through Greater Lowell Tech’s partnership with Quincy College. Outside of school, Isabella participates in competitive dance through the 5-6-7-8 Dance Studio in Dracut, MA, and has volunteered as an assistant dance instructor. Isabella demonstrates Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of respect, accountability, and commitment. Her Digital Literacy instructor describes her as a hardworking student who is dedicated to her studies, has excellent time management, and cares about her peers. Following graduation, Isabella plans to continue her education in her technical field.
October Students of the Month
Senior Student of the Month Elizabeth Hughes
- Elizabeth is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell from the Ste Jeanne d’Arc School in Lowell. Elizabeth is majoring in Information Technology Services and pursues a challenging academic schedule which includes AP English Lit, AP Calculus, Honors Physics, and AP Computer Science. In addition, Elizabeth has completed coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through Greater Lowell Tech’s partnership with Quincy College. She is ranked sixth in her class with an overall GPA of 4.29. She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society/National Honor Society, Senior Planning Committee, Morning Announcement Team, and Varsity Swim and Dive Team. She is an active member of SkillsUSA and serves as Massachusetts SkillsUSA Vice President on the state executive council. In this role, Elizabeth travels the state and the country serving as an ambassador and advocate for Career and Technical Education. She also serves as the student representative to the SkillsUSA MA Board of Directors. Elizabeth is active in community service activities and has participated in events with the Lowell City of Lights Parade, Merrimack Valley Food Bank, Dracut Council on Aging, and school-related volunteer opportunities. Elizabeth is also part of the CVS/Aetna Mentorship Program, and, outside of school, she works as an Event Server at Four Oaks Country Club. She embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values through her commitment to the school community, her efforts to maintain involvement in Greater Lowell SkillsUSA Chapter, her respect towards staff and administration in coordinating her travel/participation, and her accountability in ensuring that all of her responsibilities – whether they be state, school, class or home required – are met. Following graduation, Elizabeth plans to continue her education in the computer science field and pursue a career in the Air Force.
Junior Student of the Month April DeCastro
- April is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from Butler Middle School. April is majoring in Early Childhood Education and maintains a rigorous schedule which includes Honors English, Honors Algebra, and Advanced Placement Environmental Science. April has also completed coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through Greater Lowell Tech’s partnership with Quincy College. She has earned awards for honor roll and Special Recognition in her technical area. Outside of school, April is an active member of the Girl Scouts. She is working toward her Gold Award and has completed numerous service projects including collecting items for the food bank, promoting, and encouraging conservation, donating toys/clothes to homeless shelters, and mentoring younger troops. She also works part-time at Kinder-Care as a teacher’s assistant with the 3- to 6-year-olds. April embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of commitment, effort, and respect daily. Her theory instructor notes that April is a role model for all students in Early Childhood due to her positive attitude toward learning and strong work ethic. Following graduation, April plans to continue her career in Education and pursue a degree in Psychology. In April’s words, “I want to be with the children [in my class] not just academically, but there for them emotionally.” She plans to use her Greater Lowell certifications and knowledge as the basis for further education and a successful career working with children.
Sophomore Student of the Month Jorge Dejesus
- Jorge is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from Dr. An Wang Middle School. Jorge is majoring in Plumbing and maintains an overall GPA of 3.86. He is pursuing a varied schedule which allows him the flexibility of entering the workforce or continuing to college after graduation. His courses include College Preparatory English and College Preparatory Geometry as well as coursework in Project Lead the Way Principles of Biomedical Science. Jorge was a member of the Greater Lowell Freshman Football Team and participated in Greater Lowell JV Football at the start of the season. Outside of school, Jorge is a member and volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell. He also plays recreational basketball with the Club. Jorge works at Market Basket on Bridge Street in Lowell assisting with meal/ingredient preparation in the Market Kitchen. Jorge embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of honesty, effort, and commitment. His technical instructor describes him as a highly motivated student who is enthusiastic, hardworking, and committed to his trade. He is punctual, focused, and exhibits a positive attitude in the classroom and shop. Following graduation, Jorge plans to pursue his Plumbing career and further his education by pursuing a degree in Business.
Freshman Student of the Month Kayleigh Gagne
- Kayleigh is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from Richardson Middle School. Kayleigh has maintained High Honor Roll grades in all technical and academic classes since arriving at Greater Lowell. She is also a member of the Student Ambassador Program and has assisted in numerous events including Back to School Night, City of Lights Parade, 8th Grade Tours, and other events. Kayleigh is in the process of previewing the school’s technical areas through the Exploratory Program and has completed pre-coursework in Automotive Collision and Repair, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Graphic Arts, Metal Fabrication, and Masonry. Kayleigh has done well in all of her exploratory classes and particularly enjoyed Metal Fabrication. She is eager to experience Design and Visual Communications before making her final technical program selection. Outside of school, Kayleigh dances at Guiding Light Dance Academy in Dracut. Following graduation, she hopes to attend college. Kayleigh was nominated as a student who demonstrates Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of accountability, honesty, and commitment. She is described as a student who makes a positive contribution to the school community daily through her enthusiastic leadership, willingness to learn, and compassion for others.
November Students of the Month
Senior Student of the Month Habid Nunez
- Habid is a resident of Lowell and entered Greater Lowell from Dr. An Wang Middle School. Habid is majoring in Medical Laboratory and Assisting and pursues a challenging academic schedule which includes Advanced Placement Statistics, Dual Enrollment English Composition, and Honors Physics. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and maintains an overall GPA of 4.06. In addition to awards for High Honor Roll and Honor Roll, he has also received a Special Recognition Award in Medical Assisting. Habid is a three-season athlete and participates on the Greater Lowell Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track and Field Teams. He participates in Greater Lowell Tech’s cooperative education program and is employed at Advanced Eye Care Associates in Lowell. Habid embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of accountability, effort, and commitment. His technical instructor describes him as an outstanding student who demonstrates a dedication to helping others, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. Following graduation, Habid is planning to major in Nursing at UMass Lowell, and then continue his education to pursue a career as an Optometrist.
Junior Student of the Month Claudia Acero
- Claudia is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell from Lowell Community Charter School. She is majoring in Marketing Education and maintains an overall GPA of 4.34 which places her in the top 4 percent of her class. Claudia has chosen honors-level courses for her academics including Honors English, Honors Algebra 2, and Honors Physics. She has received awards for honor roll and high honor roll and was recently inducted as a member of the National Technical Honor Society/National Honor Society. In addition, Claudia is a member of SkillsUSA and placed first in the 2021 Local Competition for Customer Service. Claudia is currently employed by the Lowell Five as a teller following a successful cooperative education internship with Greater Lowell Tech’s on-site bank branch. Claudia was nominated for being a student who embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of commitment, effort, and respect daily. Her English instructor describes her as an incredibly hardworking student who is bright, insightful, and positive. Following graduation, she plans to continue her education in accounting and pursue a career in banking.
Sophomore Student of the Month Molly Norris
- Molly is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell from Innovation Academy. Molly is majoring in Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing. She maintains an overall GPA of 4.15 and pursues a challenging academic course load which includes Honors English, Honors Geometry, and Honors History. In addition, Molly is completing coursework in Dual Enrollment Chemistry through the schools partnership with Quincy College. She is a member of the Freshman/Sophomore Planning Committee and Greater Lowell Swim and Dive Team. Outside of school, Molly dances competitively for Lisa Pilato Dance Center in Dracut and plays recreational soccer. In addition, she is a certified lifeguard and is employed by Lowell Parks and Recreation as a lifeguard, lifeguard manager, and swim instructor. She has received awards for honor roll and numerous dance awards. She is active in community service, taking part in “End 68 Hours of Hunger” and “Project Santa.” Molly embodies Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of honesty, effort, and respect. She is described by her instructors as an exemplary student with an outstanding work ethic who always strives to succeed. After graduation, Molly is planning to continue her education in the healthcare field and pursue a career as a Pediatric Physician’s Assistant.
Freshman Student of the Month Jamie Stanford
- Jamie is a resident of Dracut and entered Greater Lowell from Richardson Middle School in Dracut. Jamie achieved High Honor Roll grades in all technical and academic classes during her first term at Greater Lowell. She is an active member of the Greater Lowell Community serving as a Student Ambassador for 8th Grade Tours, Back to School Night, Lowell City of Lights Parade, and Open House. She is also a member of Drama Club and is participating in the upcoming production of Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit as a sound/lighting tech. Jamie has completed pre-coursework through Greater Lowell Tech’s Exploratory Program, receiving high scores in all areas including Computer Aided Drafting/Design, Culinary Arts, Metal Fabrication, Marketing, and Masonry. Although Jamie enjoyed many technical areas, she particularly enjoyed Health Assisting/Pre-Nursing. Jamie was nominated as a student who demonstrates Greater Lowell Tech’s core values of Accountability, Commitment, and Honesty. She is described by Greater Lowell Tech’s Activities Coordinator as an enthusiastic student who takes initiative, assumes responsibility, consistently exceeds expectations, and contributes positively to the Greater Lowell community. Following graduation, she plans to enter the military and pursue a career in nursing.
These students went above in beyond both in and out of the classroom, displaying skills and kindness to their peers and staff.
