December 23, 2022 John Guilfoil Fire News, Police News

December 23, 2022 by John Guilfoil

For immediate release

MERRIMAC – Police Chief Eric M. Shears and Fire Chief Larry S. Fisher and the Merrimac Santa Committee are extraordinarily pleased to share with the community that the Merrimac public safety officials will once again escort Santa Claus as he makes his way through town on Christmas Eve with with every family a very Merry Christmas!

WHEN:

Saturday, Dec. 24, starting at 3:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Santa will begin and end his tour at the Fire Station, 16 East Main St., in two shifts. A list of the streets that Santa will visit can be found here.

A GPS tracking device will be temporarily placed on Santa’s sleigh so that community members can follow Santa’s route on merrimacpolice.org. The link to track Santa will be posted on the day of the event on the police department’s website.

WHAT:

Santa, joined by first responders, will tour all of Merrimac’s streets and wave to residents. The annual tradition is sponsored by the Police and Fire Departments and the Merrimac Santa Committee.

Santa will come through Merrimac rain or shine, and residents are urged to follow the schedule and to watch and listen for police cars and fire trucks helping Santa make his way through town.

“We are honored to escort Santa Claus through Merrimac once again this year,” Chief Shears said. “We encourage all residents to follow the route live and come outside to greet him.”

“Our annual assignment to see Santa safely through Merrimac is a time-honored tradition that our firefighters and police officers look forward to every year,” Chief Fisher said. “On behalf of the Merrimac Santa Committee, I want to thank the members of both departments and all the volunteers who come together to make this wonderful event happen for our families.”

Help the Merrimac Santa Committee:

The Merrimac Santa Committee seeks to raise more than $16,000 annually to fund the annual Christmas parade and to support Santa’s Christmas Eve route through the streets of Merrimac. Your donation of any amount will help keep these traditions in the present format.

Donations are accepted year-round at the Merrimac Light Department or Merrimac Santa Committee, P.O. Box 131, Merrimac, MA 01860.
