ACTON — Chief Robert Hart reports that Acton firefighters battled an aggressive house fire Monday evening and pulled a resident from the burning home.
Acton Police and Fire responded to a single-family raised-ranch located at 23 Washington St. at 7:34 p.m. Upon arrival, the first units on scene had heavy fire showing from the home, and the firefighters began a rapid interior attack after receiving reports that a person may be trapped inside.
A second alarm response was quickly declared.
Making entry, firefighters found a woman in an upstairs corner bedroom and carried her from the home. The resident was suffering from injuries including serious smoke inhalation.
The victim was transported by the Acton Fire Department with the assistance of Pro EMS paramedics to a landing zone established at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School where a Boston MedFlight medical helicopter was dispatched to take her to a Boston hospital.
Fire units from Boxborough, Littleton, Maynard and Westford responded to the scene. Firefighters from Concord, Stow and Sudbury covered Acton during the incident.
The house suffered extensive smoke, fire and water damage to one corner and smoke damage throughout the home.
Chief Hart wishes to thank the hard working men and women of the Acton Fire Department and Acton Police Department as well as Acton’s mutual aid partners for their hard work on Monday evening.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Acton Police and Fire Departments as well as the Massachusetts Fire District 14 Fire Investigation Unit and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
