TAUNTON ー Superintendent John Cabral and Mulcahey Elementary School Assistant Principal Amanda Bobola are pleased to announce that the Sole Sisters of Mulcahey running club completed its first 5k road race this past weekend.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, the Sole Sisters of Mulcahey joined forces with parents and guardians to support Pride Inc’s 5th Annual Running of the Elves road race fundraiser. At this year’s fundraiser, approximately 140 participants in total ran or walked to raise awareness and funds for the local group. Of that 140, 19 Sole Sisters of Mulcahey participated in the race alongside a guardian.
The Sole Sisters of Mulcahey running group, which is comprised of 61 third- and fourth-grade girls from Mulcahey Elementary led by Bobola, were excited to participate in Pride Inc.’s annual fundraiser alongside their families and friends.
“What started in September as a running and wellness group for our third- and fourth-grade girls blossomed into a philanthropic effort in which the girls tied on their shoes to raise money for a local organization’s cause,” Assistant Principal Bobola said. “I couldn’t be prouder of these young girls who have fostered their desire to run/walk into a meaningful way to give back to their community. I greatly look forward to watching our group continue to grow and see how else we can support our community.”
The Sole Sisters club began in September as an after-school program and had 61 students register to run and work on well-being every Thursday. Mulcahey students interested in joining the group can do so in the spring when sign-ups for the club are held once again. The school also encourages parents/guardians to get involved in the club as volunteers. Additional information about sign-ups will be shared at a alter date.
“It’s wonderful to see what Amanda and these students have been able to accomplish in just the four short months since this club’s inception,” Superintendent John Cabral said. “We always encourage our students to be active members of the greater-Taunton community and give back to others, and this race was a testament to that mission. On behalf of the entire district, I would like to congratulate the Sole Sisters on their first 5k race.”
