WHERE:
Walmart,121 Worcester Road, Framingham
WHAT:
About 400 children will be paired with a police officer from Wayland, Framingham, Natick, Ashland, Holliston, Westborough or Hopkinton to assist them in shopping. Children will be given $50, donated by the police officers, to spend on items of their choosing. Additional donations were provided by community members.
The Metrowest “Shop with a Cop” event was started by Framingham Police in 2015 along with the Ashland, Holliston and Natick Police Departments. Since 2015, the event has grown to include additional departments across the Metrowest. During this time, Metrowest police departments have provided clothes, toys, food, bedding and support to more than 2,700 children and families in the area.
“I was part of the very first ‘Shop with a Cop’ event while I was a sergeant at the Ashland Police Department, so this event holds a very special place in my heart,” Acting Chief Burman said. “Each year, I am overwhelmed by the amount of support from local officers and our community members. It is clear that this great event not only has a positive impact on local children, but on our officers, too.”
