RYE — Fire Chief Mark Cotreau reports that the Rye Fire Department battled a house fire late Sunday evening.
Firefighters responded shortly before 10 p.m. to 637 Long John Road for a report of a structure fire. “B Shift” in Rye Ladder 1 and automatic mutual aid responded immediately. Ladder 1 reported heavy fire showing from a large single family wood frame house. A second alarm was struck, sending additional fire units from the region to assist.
Thanks to quick, aggressive firefighting work from the responding units, the fire was quickly brought under control. Firefighters stopped the spread of the blaze in its tracks, saving an attached home addition from becoming involved in the fire.
Firefighters remained on-scene throughout the night, and there were no reports of injuries.
The Rye Police Department, mutual aid fire units from Greenland, Newcastle, North Hampton and Portsmouth on the first alarm and East Kingston, Hampton, Newington, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Seabrook and Kittery, Maine on the second alarm all responded to the scene. The East Kingston air trailer also supported firefighters at the scene. The Newmarket Fire Department covered Rye’s fire station during the incident.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the Rye Fire Department, Rye Police, and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office.
