TEWKSBURY — The Front Line Initiative and it’s member police departments would like to invite community members to obtain free Narcan, training, and information on the lifesaving drug during two events at the Public Health Museum in Tewksbury.
WHEN:
Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m.
WHERE:
Public Health Museum, 365 East St., Tewksbury, MA
WHAT:
Front Line Initiative, a collaborative effort of Billerica Police, Chelmsford Police, Dracut Police, Tewksbury Police and Tyngsborough Police, is partnering with the Public Health Museum to offer the community free doses of overdose reversing drug Narcan, also known as Naloxone, as well as training on how to use it and information about the lifesaving drug.
Narcan quickly reverses the effects of opioids on the body and can save a life when administered to an individual experiencing overdose. The drug has no major side effects and can be administered by members of the public with limited training.
Training and information will be offered in two sessions on Dec. 15 and Dec. 17 at the Public Health Museum, with both sessions being open to the public.

“Last year, almost 2,300 overdose deaths were identified in Massachusetts, a sad record number of cases, and over 90% involved an opioid drug, primarily fentanyl. This is an ongoing public health emergency,” said Dr. Al DeMaria Jr., president of the Public Health Museum. “Naloxone is a medication that reverses the effects of opioids, such as fentanyl, working rapidly and with essentially no adverse effects. Naloxone is relatively easy to administer and can save the life of someone who is experiencing an overdose. The Public Health Museum is very pleased to host training in this life-saving intervention in the face of this declared public health emergency.”
