RANDOLPH — Chief Anthony Marag reports that a man was arrested and charged following a stabbing that occurred early Friday morning.

STEVE ANTIRO LOPES, AGE 42, OF RANDOLPH, was arrested and charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon

LOPES is expected to be arraigned in Quincy District Court today.

At approximately 2 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Scott Sherman was on patrol and observed a fight between two males in the area of the Flames Restaurant parking lot, 332 N Main St.

When Sgt. Sherman approached the scene, one of the males, later identified as LOPES, fled the area on foot. Sgt. Sherman determined that the other man had allegedly been stabbed multiple times.

LOPES was quickly located by officers running through the parking lot of the nearby Wendy’s and was arrested without further incident. A weapon was located near where the stabbing occurred.

The victim, a 45-year-old Randolph man, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he is in critical condition as of midday Friday.

Randolph Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

“Sgt. Sherman’s keen observation skills while on patrol this morning resulted in the discovery of this incident as it was ongoing, which helped ensure that the victim immediately received treatment for his injuries, as well as allowed officers to quickly arrest the suspect,” Chief Marag said.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
