HAVERHILL – Superintendent Maureen Lynch is proud to announce that two Whitter Tech educators were recently named as Educators of the Year by the Haverhill YMCA.
Math instructor Elizabeth Teixeira and science instructor David Charbonneau were recognized alongside 10 other educators at Haverhill YMCA’s annual celebration of local educators on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Renaissance Country Club. They received this honor for exemplifying the core values of the YMCA program, including caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Teixeira has been a vital member of the Math Department since 2010. She has helped introduce higher-level Math courses to the Whittier curriculum. Outside of the classroom, Teixeira plays an important role in various clubs and sports, including as coach of the track team.
“Ms. Teixeira is a highly qualified educator who emulates determination to nurture every student’s potential, dedication to her students and her school’s success, and an enthusiastic commitment to her district’s community,” said English language learner instructor Susannah DiMauro
Charbonneau has taught science at Whittier Tech for a decade, devoting his time to the success of his students.
“In the classroom, David sets high expectations for all of his students while also forming strong relationships. These strong relationships help students work harder in his Anatomy classes, and students often form strong interest in the subject matter,” said science instructor Jonathan Warne.
In addition to supporting his students in the classroom, he also is the head coach of the boys’ basketball team and is a co-advisor of the Gender Sexuality Alliance Club.
“I want to congratulate both Elizabeth and David for this outstanding achievement,” Superintendent Lynch said. “They are great educators and people, and have brought so much value to their students both inside and outside the classroom for many years. Thank you to the YMCA for recognizing their stellar efforts.”
