STONEHAM — Superintendent David Ljungberg is pleased to invite members of the community to the Stoneham Public Schools’ upcoming School Safety Night, which has been rescheduled for early December after being postponed from earlier this fall.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the district’s annual School Safety Night on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7:15 p.m. at Stoneham High School. The evening will offer attendees an opportunity to learn about several important safety-related topics affecting students, and how to approach discussing some of those topics with their children.
Team Sharing’s Hope’s Room Hidden In Plain Sight display will also be available for attendees, giving parents and guardians important insights into the possible signs of teen substance use that may go unnoticed in daily life. The display showcases warning signs and gives parents tips on places illicit substances could be hidden in their child’s room. Those interested in seeing the display, which will be located in the school’s library, should plan to arrive early.
District leaders will discuss topics like mental health and substance use, the dangers of prescription drugs and risky behaviors, vaping, alcohol abuse, as well as staying safe online and on social media.
Stoneham’s School Resource Officer will provide more information on what their role is in the schools day to day, as well as provide an update on building security measures and more general tips around bicycle safety and Halloween safety.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about the district’s use of ALICE training — Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate — for potential active shooter scenarios, as well as other drills and safety protocols the district has in place to make students prepared and keep them safe.
