MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal John Murray are pleased to announce that Medway High School senior Destiny Ojukwu has been presented with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (M.A.S.S.) Award of Academic Excellence.

Ojukwu was nominated by the faculty and staff at Medway High School and was presented with the award earlier this month.

The M.A.S.S. Award of Academic Excellence is presented by the superintendent to a deserving student in each school district throughout Massachusetts. To be considered for the award, the student must be a member of the senior class with a cumulative GPA that places them in the top fifth percentile of their class. The nominee must also consistently demonstrate traits of leadership, social responsibility, respect for their fellow students and involvement in various aspects of the school community.

Ojukwu will graduate from Medway High School in June 2023. Upon her graduation, she will have taken 14 Honors level courses and 11 Advanced Placement courses.

She has particular interest in the STEM field. She has participated in an online MIT Office of Engineering Outreach Program within the School of Engineering, a Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program through Harvard Medical School, and the Summer Academy of Math and Science through Carnegie Mellon University.

Ojukwu is described by her Medway High School teachers as a leader and a mentor. She serves as a Peer Counselor and is a member of the 40% Club of Happiness and Joy. During the opening school year ceremonies held for all staff members, she served on a student panel where she represented peers and offered advice to faculty and staff about how they can support students, specifically those who may be seen as different.

Ojukwu is also committed to social responsibility and has been recognized as the Jennings Family’s Social Responsibility and Global Impact Award recipient.

“Destiny is a determined, responsible, highly motivated and intelligent student. She is intrinsically motivated and this has proven true time and time again through her stellar academic and extracurricular accomplishments,” Superintendent Pires said when presenting Ojukwu with the award. “Destiny embodies the core values of the Medway Public Schools, and we are proud to recognize her as the recipient of this year’s Superintendent’s Award of Academic Excellence.”
