PLAINVILLE — Chief James Floyd, on behalf of the Plainville Police Department, would like to share traffic information in anticipation of increased holiday traffic in the community in the coming days.
Beginning Friday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 27, the Plainville Police Department will be working several traffic posts due to the increased holiday traffic and early opening of the Wrentham Outlets.
Traffic will be diverted from several streets and neighborhoods to major routes such as Route 1A and Route 1 to keep vehicle traffic on major routes and limit traffic on ancillary roadways. With traffic diverted, a clear route will be established for police, EMS, and the Department of Public Works to respond to emergencies and mitigate the impact associated with large crowds visiting the Wrentham Outlets over the holiday weekend.
Community members should note that there will be traffic officers at the following intersections from Nov. 25-27 to monitor the following road closures:
- South and Berry – No traffic on Berry unless you are a resident in those neighborhoods or visiting a resident in those neighborhoods. All traffic will be directed to stay on South Street.
- Wampum and Everett Skinner – No traffic on Wampum unless you’re a resident in those neighborhoods or visiting a resident in those neighborhoods. All traffic traveling north will be directed to Taunton Street and all traffic traveling south will be directed to Route 1.
- Everett Skinner and School Street – No traffic on School or Everett Skinner unless you’re a resident in those neighborhoods or visiting a resident in those neighborhoods. All traffic will be re-directed to Route 1.
“Every year thousands of people travel to the Wrentham Outlets to begin their holiday shopping,” Chief Floyd said. “With these shoppers comes an increase in traffic in town, however, we are prepared to mitigate traffic to the best of our ability to limit the disruption to our residents. We ask that residents and visitors alike be patient this weekend and follow all directions and reroutes given by officers. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday shopping trip!”
