ENFIELD — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle and Principal Jamie Winny are pleased to share that five Enfield Village School students who won a fire prevention poster contest received a special ride to school last week.
Students at Enfield Village School participated in the contest as part of Fire Prevention Week, which is observed each October.
Students were tasked with making original posters that showcased this year’s theme, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.” One winner was chosen from each grade.
Winners of the contest were: Kindergartener Olivia Miller, first-grader Piper Blanchard, second-grader Chloe McHugh-Kramer, third-grader Noah Turunen, and fourth-grader Clara Finger.
Olivia, Piper, Chloe, Noah, and Clara were driven to school in an Enfield Fire Department truck on Friday, Oct. 28.
During this Fire Prevention Week, students learned about ways to evacuate their homes safely and talking with their families about a picking a meeting spot to gather at in the event of a fire.
Fire Prevention Week is organized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and has been recognized since 1922. The goal of Fire Prevention Week is to educate the public about simple but important ways they can keep themselves and those they live with safe.
“Congratulations to the winners and all who participated in the poster contest. Thank you to the Enfield Fire Department for collaborating with us, and reinforcing the important lessons of fire safety,” said Superintendent Isabelle. “I am grateful that our students had the opportunity to learn these evacuation tactics in a fun and interactive way.”
