TYNGSBORO – Superintendent Jill Davis proudly shares that the talents of Greater Lowell Technical High School students are being highlighted on the PBS series “This Old House.”
Show host Kevin O’Connor and a video crew visited the school in May to interview Carpentry Instructor Bruce Brown and students Lindsey Erazo and Maryellen Sweeney of Lowell, and Tyler Dumais of Tyngsboro. About a dozen students in the Carpentry program planned and constructed a 4-foot by 8-foot solid oak table for the Centre School Project, a renovation of a former Dracut town building into housing with veteran preference.
A segment interviewing students and faculty may be viewed here. A follow-up segment unveiling the finished table may be viewed here.
Lowell-based Coalition for a Better Acre, which purchased the building, invited the school to participate. Students researched period furniture, and designed the table to be historically accurate and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The housing project opened officially in July.
“Greater Lowell Tech appreciates our community partnerships and the opportunities they provide,” Superintendent Davis said. “Our students can practice their technical skills and gain real-world experience in their chosen field, instilling pride in workmanship and a sense of giving back to their community.”
“This Old House” is produced by and airs locally on WGBH, Channel 2.
