BURLINGTON — Director Michael Wick is pleased to announce that the Burlington Library is now offering a 24/7 pickup option for patrons who place holds on items.
The new, automated Holds Hub at the library enables patrons to pick up their requested items at their convenience at any time. The Holds Hub functions much like an Amazon locker, with patrons receiving a unique code that allows them access to a compartment with their library items inside.
The locker represents an evolution of the library’s pickup option, as curbside pickup has been retired.
“This tool is a tremendous step forward in our ability to serve patrons and meet their needs,” Wick said. “While we were unable to continue our curbside pickup service, we believe the locker will better meet patrons’ needs by providing an automated system that is not bound by the library’s normal business hours.”
The locker was made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Burlington Public Library and Barbara Del Duca through the Del Duca Fund.
Patrons placing holds on items online will be given the option to select the Holds Hub as a pickup method. When items are ready, patrons will receive an email or text notification with a custom PIN number or QR code. Patrons also may access their holds in the Holds Hub via the Smiota app on their smartphone.
