MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson, Principal Mike Devoll and Athletic Director Bill Tilden are pleased to share that the Old Rochester Regional High School golf team capped off their season this week by winning the MIAA Div. 2 State Championship.
The team capped off their successful season Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Maplegate Country Club in Bellingham. The team was led by Philip le Gassick shooting a 3-under par 69, Markus Pierre with a 75, Braden Yeomans with a 78 and Peter le Gassick with an 80.
Other scores that were not used were Brady Mills with an 83 and Gabe DeBlois with an 85.
“This championship was a product of all the hard work the players have put in over the past couple of years, during the season and during the off season,” Coach Chris Cabe said. “I am so proud of what they have accomplished and how they have bonded with each other to bring Old Rochester their first state title in golf and the first title for the South Coast Conference.”
This concluded the team’s undefeated season with a record of 14-0. The team finished as South Coast Conference champions and won the South Coast Conference tournament last week at Allendale Country Club in North Dartmouth.
The team finished third in the South Sectionals last week at Easton Country Club to qualify to play in the State Finals yesterday.
“The members of our championship-winning golf team have shown great skill on the course and have also been great ambassadors for our school this entire year,” Principal Devoll said. “On behalf of the entire Southeastern community, we applaud them for this terrific accomplishment.”
The 2022 Old Rochester Regional High School golf team includes the following:
Senior captains Markus Pierre, Philip le Gassick and Alec Marsden; seniors Gabe DeBlois and Sawyer Fox; juniors Braden Yeomans and John Higgins; sophomores Peter le Gassick, Connor Galligan, Zach Mourao, Logan Franco, Jack Soutter and Finn Kavanaugh; and freshmen Brady Mills, Riley Karo, Chase Almeida and Jake Iappini.
“On behalf of the entire ORR school community, we congratulate the coaches and players of our golf team on such a successful season,” Superintendent Nelson said. “This is the latest example of our athletics department striving for and achieving excellence, and shows the high level of commitment and dedication of our student-athletes.”
