LUDLOW — Fire Chief Ryan Pease encourages community members to sign up for the Ludlow Fire Department’s Ambulance Subscription Program.
The ambulance subscription fee will increase this year from $40 to $50 per household. The Department has been faced with increased costs to supplies and equipment and the slight fee increase will help offset those expenses. The last fee increase occurred in 2010.
The Program will pay all costs of emergency ambulance services provided by the Ludlow Fire Department that are not covered by the subscriber’s insurance. All residents living in the same household are covered under one subscription payment.
Currently, the out-of-pocket cost for Advance Life Saving transport is $1,350 plus mileage.
The fee may be used as a tax deduction to the extent of the law. Donations from this program are used to help purchase necessary supplies and equipment for the Ludlow Ambulance Service. In the past, these funds have been primarily spent on capital expenditures, including ambulance purchases.
“We thank all of you who have supported this program in the past and hope that we will continue to have your support of this beneficial program,” Chief Pease said. “Although the cost of this program has increased slightly, it is still a great opportunity for all Ludlow residents, and we encourage current and new members to participate.”
The Ludlow Fire Department has mailed the 2023 Ambulance Subscription sign-up form to all households in Ludlow. Residents should expect to receive them by the end of October. The Department also offers a quick and easy way to sign up for this service online here. Residents who do not receive a form by mail can print one online or call the Fire Department to request one.
Residents should be aware that 2022 subscriptions expire on Dec. 31. To ensure continued coverage, current subscribers should pay online or in person before Dec. 31.
Those who wish to drop off payment at the station should leave it on one of the secure drop boxes located outside the Fire Dispatch Area on the Center Street side or inside the main vestibule of the Public Safety Complex on the Chapin Street side. Cash and checks are accepted.
