ANDOVER – Chief Michael Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue responded to and extinguished a three-alarm house fire this afternoon.
On Sunday, Oct. 23, at approximately 12:13 p.m., Andover Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fire at 15 Somerset Drive.
Responding firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the home. At 12:17 p.m. firefighters declared this a working fire and struck a second alarm for additional assistance.
A third alarm was struck at 12:40 p.m. after the fire continued to spread to the attic and the roof structure became heavily engulfed in flames.
The fire was knocked down and extinguished at 1:34 p.m. Mutual aid was provided on scene by Lawrence, Tewksbury, North Andover, and Wilmington Fire Departments.
The 9,500-square-foot home sustained significant damage and was deemed a total loss. No one was home at the time of the fire.The three occupants of the home are currently displaced.
The Reading, North Reading and Middleton Fire Departments provided station coverage for Andover.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Andover Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
