LUDLOW — Fire Chief Ryan Pease reports that the Ludlow Fire Department extinguished a fire at a home on Jerad Drive yesterday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Ludlow Central Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire at 189 Jerad Drive. Ludlow Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Lavoie was in the area at the time of the fire, and arrived on scene moments later.
Upon arrival, he observed that the home was fully involved with heavy flames. A second and third alarm was struck for additional personnel and water tankers. The fire was brought under control within an hour of firefighter’s arrival on scene. Crews remained on scene for several hours to wet down the area.
One resident was home at the time of the fire and was able to escape on his own.He suffered injuries believed to be non-life threatening and was evaluated by Ludlow Fire Department paramedics, but declined further treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The home is considered a total loss. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the four displaced residents.
An underground propane tank that serviced the home was damaged by the fire. Ludlow Fire crews remain on scene today monitoring the tank.
Mutual aid was provided by the Granby, Palmer and Westover Fire Departments. Ludlow Police also provided assistance. Station coverage was provided by the Wilbraham Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ludlow Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Fire Marshall’s Office, though a preliminary investigation indicates that the fire is not suspicious.
