HAMPTON — Superintendent Lois Costa wishes to invite parents and community members to an informational session to learn about suicide prevention next week.
WHEN:
Thursday, Oct. 20, beginning at 7 p.m.
WHERE:
Hampton Academy auditorium, 29 Academy Ave.
WHAT:
Members of the Connor’s Climb Foundation, as well as the SAU 90 Suicide Prevention Team, which includes school district counselors, psychologists and social workers, will lead a discussion surrounding suicide prevention and awareness.
Attendees will learn about warning signs that a person is considering suicide, and how they can support family members struggling with mental health.
“Having conversations like these are crucial. This session will help to remove the stigma around mental health and will give parents tactics to support students who may be struggling,” Superintendent Costa said. “We urge parents and caregivers to join us for this important discussion.”
Connor’s Climb Foundation was established by the family and friends of Connor Ball, who took his own life in October 2011. The organization’s mission is to provide suicide prevention education to New Hampshire youth and the community by raising awareness, reducing the stigma around mental health, and equipping youth, educators, and communities with tools and resources focused on the vulnerable age group of 10-24-year-olds.
