NORTON — Chief Shawn Simmons reports that the Norton Fire Department has cleared the scene of a gas leak on Route 140, which has been contained.
Norton Fire responded to Route 140 (Taunton Avenue) near the Taunton line for a reported gas leak earlier this afternoon. At approximately 1:10 p.m., Norton Fire, along with Norton Police, Eversource and National Grid, responded to the scene to shut down gas services.
The gas leak has been contained, however, Eversource and National Grid remain on scene with Norton Police at this time working to repair the gas line.
According to Norton Fire, a construction crew was working in the area earlier today when they struck a gas line in the street.
Route 140 near the Taunton line is still partially shut down, but traffic is being allowed through at this time.
