NORTON — Chief Shawn Simmons reports that the Norton Fire Department is on scene responding to a gas leak on Route 140 this afternoon and is asking residents to avoid the area.
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Norton Fire responded to Route 140 (Taunton Avenue) near the Taunton line for a reported gas leak. According to Norton Fire, a construction crew was working in the area when they struck a gas line in the street.
Norton Fire remains on scene with Eversource as they work to shut down gas services to the area and stop the leak.
Route 140 near the Taunton line is shut down to traffic and Norton Fire is asking that residents avoid the area until further notice.
