SOMERSET — In observation of National Seat Check Saturday, Police Chief Todd Costa announces that the Somerset Police Department, in partnership with AAA Somerset, will host a Child Safety Seat Check event.
The Somerset Police Department will host a joint car seat safety check event on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the AAA location in Somerset, 869 Grand Army of the Republic Highway.
The event will feature free infant and child car seat installations and inspections by certified child passenger safety technicians from the Somerset Police Department. Officers will help determine if a car seat is appropriate for the child’s age and size, and will ensure that the seat is properly installed. They will also be able to assist new parents with the initial installation of a car seat, and can answer questions about child safety seats.
The event is free to attend. No appointment or pre-registration is required.
This event will take place inside of the Stop and Shop parking lot plaza where the AAA space is located. Signage will be put into place within the plaza to safely direct vehicular traffic into and out of the event location. The department asks that community members be cognizant of the traffic flow pattern as it is put into place for the safety of both the practitioners at the event and members of the public.
“On behalf of the Somerset Police Department, we look forward to serving the public at this important event, and we offer our sincere thanks to AAA Somerset for providing a worthy location and resources in furtherance of the event’s success,” Chief Costa said.
National Seat Check Saturday is part of Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 18-24, which emphasizes the importance of having the correct car seat for your child based on their age and size, and the importance of proper installation.
