NEWPORT — Chief Travis Bingham reports that the Newport Police Department arrested a man as a result of an ongoing investigation into a burglary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture office in Newport.
KASEY AINSWORTH, AGE 29, OF NEWPORT, was arrested and charged with:
- Burglary
- False Pretense or Token
- Possession of Stolen Property
On Friday, Sept. 16, at approximately 7 a.m., Newport Police were notified that someone had burglarized the U.S. Department of Agriculture office at 59 Waterfront Plaza in Newport.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that an office window had been broken into during the overnight hours, and approximately $2,600 worth of various items, including a laptop computer, a bank card, and a checkbook, were missing.
Later in the day, police learned someone had tried to cash a check that was stolen in the burglary at a bank on Gardner Street, but that they were unsuccessful. Police also learned that the stolen bank card was used two times, once at an ATM on Main Street, and again at a mini market on Route 101 in North Troy.
Surveillance footage from the bank and mini market enabled police to identify several suspects, including AINSWORTH.
Police located AINSWORTH on Thursday, Sept. 22, at approximately 11 a.m., and charged him following an interview at the police station.
Newport Police are also seeking BYRON CAMBER, AGE 27, and ALEX BECKER, AGE 34, in connection with the incident.

AINSWORTH was lodged on $2,500 bail and will be arraigned Friday in Orleans District Court.
