MILTON — Principal Suzanne Banach is pleased to announce that St. Mary of the Hills School held a successful back-to-school picnic and barbecue recently to celebrate the start of the new school year.
On Wednesday, Aug. 31, faculty, staff and students from all grades came together for a picnic to usher in the 2022-2023 school year, and were joined by many parents and members of the community.
A key part of the picnic was allowing students to meet their new teachers for the year. It also allowed families to meet teachers and staff, and strengthen connections between the school and the greater community.
“Even before the shutdown from the pandemic we had scaled back the annual back-to-school picnic, but this year we wanted to go all out to both welcome back our returning students and introduce our new students to the school community,” Principal Banach said. “It was such a terrific way to start the school year on a positive note, and we’re looking forward to everything this year has in store.”
The picnic also furthered the school’s effort to bridge the Early Childhood Center with the K-8 building and promote one cohesive school community, as students of all grades were able to interact and enjoy the picnic together.
“The back-to-school picnic was the perfect way to start the new school year,” said Pastor Fr. Eric Bennett. “We hope it will be the first of many events that bring our school and community together.”
St. Mary of the Hills School has two special events planned for this fall. They include:
- A Halloween Parade will be held prior to Halloween. Students from the Early Childhood Center and grades K-2 will dress up in their costumes and parade around the school while the rest of the student body, teachers and staff cheer them on. A “trunk-or-treat” event for older students will also be held in conjunction with the parade.
- The school’s annual Grandparents and Veterans Celebration will be held on Nov. 10. The event features grandparents and veterans coming to the school for a special celebration. As part of the event, students will sing to the invited guests and the official songs of each branch of the military will be played as a way to acknowledge veterans and their service.
