WAKEFIELD — Chief Steven A. Skory is pleased to announce that a member of the Wakefield Police Department has graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy.
Lt. Joseph Anderson graduated from the 283rd class of the National Academy on Sept. 13 at the Academy headquarters in Quantico, Virginia.
In order to be considered for the 10-week program, participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies, often having more than 10 years of law enforcement experience. The program covers communication, leadership, and fitness training.
Lt. Anderson began his career at the Salisbury and Newbury Police Departments before coming to Wakefield in 2011. Lt. Anderson was promoted to Sergeant in 2014 and Lieutenant in 2019 and is currently in charge of the night division for the department. Additionally, he oversees training and emergency response planning and is also the chairman of the town’s Traffic Advisory Committee.
The 283rd class consisted of 235 law enforcement officers from 49 states and the District of Columbia, which included members of law enforcement agencies from 21 countries, five military organizations, and five federal and civilian agencies.
Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.
Anderson is the ninth officer in Wakefield Police history to complete the prestigious program.
“We would like to congratulate Lt. Anderson on this tremendous accomplishment,” said Chief Skory. “He is a highly motivated individual who has performed at a top level throughout his career. The knowledge and skills that he has developed at the National Academy will benefit both the department and the Town of Wakefield.”
