On Thursday, Aug. 25, at about 5:15 p.m., Newport Police received multiple calls reporting possible gunshots in the area of Third Street and Prospect Street. Upon initial investigation, responding officers learned that multiple shots had been fired into a three-family property on Third Street. Several people were inside at the time. No one was reported hurt.
Newport officers spoke with KELLIE PETERS and JUSTIN PETERS, who live at the address, during the initial investigation. Officers also spoke with another resident, LETOURNEAU, who was uncooperative and blocked their path as they attempted to enter. LETOURNEAU allegedly became aggressive toward officers, and was arrested after a brief struggle.
During a routine patrol later Thursday evening, deputies from the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department stopped a car in which TRUSZKOWSKI was a passenger in North Troy. TRUSZKOWSKI was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting based on a subsequent interview with Newport Police.
KELLIE PETERS and JUSTIN PETERS were subsequently arrested and charged, and held on probation violations.
Newport Police and their law enforcement partners are searching for the man believed to be the shooter. He is a black male of average build and height, curly black hair, and answers to “Ty” or “Tyler.” He was last seen wearing blue pants, a white hooded pullover, and dark-colored shoes with white soles.
KELLIE PETERS, JUSTIN PETERS, and TRUSZKOWSKI are scheduled for arraignment on Friday in Orleans District Court. LETOURNEAU is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday in Orleans District Court.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Chief Bingham urges anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Newport Police Department at 802-334-6733.
