ARLINGTON — Chief Julie Flaherty is pleased to share that Officer Mike Hogan and his K-9 partner Eiko were recently recognized at a Boston Red Sox game.
Officer Hogan and K-9 Eiko attended the Aug. 9 Red Sox game and were honored as Service Dog of the Game, a summer series in which a service dog is recognized at home plate before every Tuesday evening home game.
Their invite came after the department posted a video of K-9 Eiko jumping off a dock and into the water during a recent heat wave. Watch the video here.
At the game, Officer Hogan and K-9 Eiko were brought out onto the field and were recognized for their service to the Arlington community.
“I’d like to thank the Red Sox for inviting us to the game, and I appreciate them for recognizing K-9 Eiko and the work he and police K-9s across the state do in their communities,” Officer Hogan said.
K-9 Eiko is a 7-year-old German Shepherd. He is a dual-purpose police K-9 certified in both patrol and narcotics through the Boston Police K-9 Academy. He has been with the department since 2017. He has assisted in numerous apprehensions and searches during the past five years, and is a staple at community events and demonstrations.
Officer Hogan has been a K-9 handler since 2006, previously working with the late K-9 Dasty in Arlington. He has been a dedicated member of the Arlington Police Department for the past 21 years, and worked with other law enforcement partners alongside the Boston Red Sox during the team’s World Series win in 2013.
“Our K-9 unit has always been an important part of our department, and aside from the work they do alongside our officers, our K-9s have also formed lasting positive relationships with residents through school visits and community events,” Chief Flaherty said. “Officer Hogan and Eiko are a great team, and I am pleased to see them recognized as part of the Red Sox’s Service Dog series.”
