LUDLOW — Chief Daniel Valadas reports the Ludlow Police Department arrested a woman on multiple charges after she allegedly assaulted an officer while being taken into custody for Operating Under the Influence.
CASSANDRA LOPES, AGE 31, OF LUDLOW,was arrested and charged with
- Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (Three Counts)
- Resisting Arrest
- Disorderly Conduct
On Thursday, July 14, at 5:16 p.m., Ludlow Police were dispatched to the Whitney Park Summer Program for a report of an adult who was very unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol while arriving to pick up a juvenile participant in the program.
Upon arrival, officers initiated an on-scene investigation that included a field sobriety test and subsequently determined that the woman, LOPES, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and would be taken into custody for Operating Under the Influence of Liquor.
As officers attempted to take LOPES into custody, she allegedly began to resist officers and attempted to headbutt one of them. LOPES allegedly continued to resist being taken into custody and kicked an officer, prompting an officer to deploy a taser against her.
Later, during the booking process, LOPES continued to be unruly and kicked another officer.
LOPES was held on $2,500 cash bail and was transported to the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center. She was later arraigned in Palmer District Court.
