Where:
Tewksbury Memorial High School, 320 Pleasant St.
What:
The Tewksbury Police Department, in collaboration with Tewksbury Fire and the Northern Regional Middlesex Communication Center (NRMCC), is hosting a cookout for residents and community members.
Residents will have the opportunity to meet Tewksbury public safety members. Attendees can explore law enforcement vehicles including police cruisers, fire trucks, ambulances, motorcycles, ATVs, Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT vehicles, and the Tewksbury Police Drone Unit.
Additionally, there will be a dunk tank where residents can dunk a first responder. The Tewksbury Police K-9 Unit will hold a demonstration from 4:30-5 p.m.
Officer Eric Hanley and Waffles the comfort dog will be in attendance. Food and drinks will be available throughout the day.
“We are excited to host this event for our residents in town and come together as a community for a fun afternoon,” said Police Chief Ryan Columbus. “As a public safety department, it is important to make those connections within your community and get to know the people you are helping. This event is a great opportunity to do that.”
The Tewksbury Fire Department will be holding a fire extinguisher demonstration, and children will have the opportunity to spray a fire hose. Additionally, Tewksbury Fire will have a hydrant sprinkler to help children cool off.
“The Tewksbury Fire Department looks forward to partnering with the Tewksbury Police Department and NMRECC in hosting a public safety afternoon. We especially look forward to interacting and communicating with the residents of Tewksbury,” said Fire Chief Joseph Kearns. “This is a great opportunity for all the public safety personnel to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with the community.”
NMRECC will offer informational safety handouts and prizes throughout the day for residents and children, including coloring books and crayons.
“Northern Middlesex Regional Emergency Communications staff are thrilled to be a part of our first ever Public Safety Night event in conjunction with the Tewksbury Police Department and other Public Safety partners,” said NMRECC Executive Director Kevin Lessard. “It’s very important for our Public Safety Telecommunicators to meet members of our community and provide some information about 911 people may not be aware of!”
