EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Paul O’Brien is pleased to report that the East Bridgewater Police Department held a swearing-in ceremony for four members of the department this week.
On Wednesday, Aug. 3, three new sergeants and one new officer were officially sworn in by Town Clerk Sue Gillpatrick at a ceremony at Town Hall. The ceremony was attended by state officials, members of the East Bridgewater Board of Selectmen, officers from the EBPD, and friends and family of those being sworn in.
The three new sergeants and new officer sworn in included:
Detective Sgt. Ryan Cramer, who was promoted from the rank of detective effective July 31. Detective Sgt. Cramer has been with the department since 2013, starting as a civilian dispatcher. He was then appointed a permanent-intermittent officer in April 2014, and appointed as a full-time officer in July 2015. He was promoted to detective in April 2018.
Detective Sgt. Cramer is a graduate of the East Bridgewater High School Class of 2008. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Nichols College in 2012 and his master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2020. He is currently assigned to the Massachusetts State Police CINRET Narcotics Task Force.
Sgt. John Smith, who was promoted from the rank of officer effective July 31. Sgt. Smith has been with the department since 2012, starting as civilian dispatcher. He also was appointed as a special police officer in 2012, and became a permanent-intermittent officer in April 2016, and then appointed as a full-time officer in July 2016.
Sgt. Smith is a graduate of the East Bridgewater High School Class of 1991. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State University in 2001, and his master’s degree from Curry College in 2019. He performs the duties of Court Prosecutor, Hate Crimes/Civil Rights Officer, Sex Offender Registry, Keeper of the Records, and Evidence Officer.
Sgt. Dennis Andre, who was promoted from the rank of officer effective July 31. Sgt. Andre has been with the department since 2000, starting as a civilian dispatcher, then becoming a permanent-intermittent officer in 2004, and then appointed as a full-time officer in March 2006.
Sgt. Andre graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1995. Sergeant Andre has been a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT Team since 2009 and is currently assigned as a team leader on the SEMLEC SWAT team.
Officer Kyle Bersani, who was appointed as a full-time officer effective June 5. Officer Bersani attended and graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy for Reserve Officers in 2018 and the 3rd ROC Cape Cod Police Academy for full-time Officers in 2021. Officer Bersani was a special police officer in the Town of Whitman from 2018-2020 and was hired as a full-time officer in the Town of Hanson in July 2020. Officer Bersani worked as a full-time police officer in Hanson until June 2022, when he was hired full time by the Town of East Bridgewater Police Department.
Officer Bersani graduated from East Bridgewater High School in May 2015. He attended and graduated from Massasoit Community College in 2017 with an associate’s degree in criminal justice and graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2020 with his bachelor’s degree.
“We are extremely grateful for the hard work and dedication that Detective Sgt. Cramer, Sgt. Smith, Sgt. Andre and Officer Bersani have shown throughout their careers and we look forward to them continuing their work on behalf of the residents of East Bridgewater,” Chief O’Brien said. “It means a lot that all four are graduates of East Bridgewater High School, and they all have a strong connection to the community they serve. On behalf of the entire department we wish them the best going forward.”
Wednesday’s ceremony included citations being presented to the four members from the Massachusetts Senate by Sen. Michael Brady (which were also signed by Sen. Walter Timilty), as well a citations from the Massachusetts House from the office of Rep. Alyson Sullivan.
