For immediate release

PLYMOUTH — Chief Neil Foley and Emergency Management Director Christian Horvath would like to inform residents that cooling stations will be available throughout the weekend amid high temperatures.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Norfolk County, including Plymouth, beginning on Thursday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. to Friday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. High temperatures and high humidity could potentially lead to dangerous conditions for residents, especially on Thursday when temperatures could climb to the upper 90s.

For residents looking to find relief from the heat today and tomorrow, the following locations will be open to community members as cooling centers:

  • The Community Room at the Cedarville Fire Station, 2209 State Road, is open to the public today and tomorrow from  8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • The Main Library, 132 South St., is open to the public today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Those with questions can call 508-830-4250.
  • The Manomet Branch Library, 12 Strand Ave., is open to the public today from 1- 9 p.m and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those with questions can call 508-830-4185.
  • The Center for Active Living is open to the public today and Friday between the hours of  8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Center for Active Living employees may be able to assist residents with transportation to the facility today and tomorrow, Aug. 5. Residents in need of transportation should call April Thompson at 508-830-4230 ext. 106 for more information.

For anyone requiring assistance getting to a cooling center, please call the Plymouth Fire Department’s Business Line at 508-830-4213 ext. 100. The Town will share additional information regarding transportation for the weekend once it becomes available.

Community members visiting cooling stations are asked to make other arrangements for their pets, if possible.
