ACTON — Police Chief Richard Burrows and Fire Chief Robert Hart report that the Acton Police and Fire Departments, with assistance from law enforcement partners, quickly located a missing 5-year-old boy Thursday.
On Thursday, August 4, at approximately 3:55 p.m., a 5-year-old boy who is on the Autism spectrum was reported missing from his home in the area of Crestwood Lane and Central Street.
Acton Police responded immediately and searched the home and surrounding area, requesting assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Airwing and multiple K-9 units from the state police, Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, Littleton Police Department and Pepperell Police Department. The Maynard Police Department Drone Unit responded as well.
The Acton Fire Department and Boxborough Police Department also responded to provide additional manpower to the search.
Approximately 55 minutes after the boy was reported missing, he was found on a small bridge over the Fort Pond Brook near train tracks in the area of his home. The boy was not injured, and was returned to his family.
“I’d like to thank our law enforcement partners who responded immediately to our requests for assistance, and I’d like to thank the men and women of the Acton Police and Fire Departments for their professionalism and dedication to this community and the children who live here,” said Deputy Chief Jim Cogan.
