PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association wishes to share information on National Night Out events scheduled in communities across Rhode Island.

National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. Each year, millions of people across the U.S. participate in National Night Out, a community-building campaign aimed at strengthening the bond between the police and their community members and improving safety in neighborhoods.

The following Rhode Island police departments are participating in National Night Out today, Tuesday, Aug. 2:

  • Central Falls Police: 6-8 p.m. at Jenks Park
  • Cranston Police: 4-7 p.m. at Garden City Center
  • East Greenwich Police: 6-8 p.m. at Academy Field
  • East Providence Police: 5-8 p.m. at Robert Rock Senior Center
  • Lincoln Police: 5-8 p.m. at Manville Park
  • Narragansett Police: 5-8 p.m. at the Hazard School, 153 School St., Wakefield
  • North Providence Police: 6-8 p.m. at Governor Notte Park
  • Pawtucket Police: 5-9 p.m. at Payne Park
  • Portsmouth Police: beginning at 7 p.m. at Sandy Point Beach
  • South Kingstown Police: 5-8 p.m. at the Hazard School, 153 School St., Wakefield
  • Warwick Police: 3-9:30 p.m. at Rocky Point Park
  • Woonsocket Police: 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the World War II Veterans Memorial Park

Additionally, the Newport Police Department will host its National Night Out event on Thursday, Aug. 4 from 4-6 p.m. at Eastons Beach.

Community members are encouraged to visit their local department’s website or social media, or contact the department directly for additional details on their event.

“National Night Out is an exciting tradition in many communities, providing an opportunity for police officers and community members to build positive relationships and get to know one another,” said Sidney M. Wordell, RIPCA Executive Director. “We hope all of the participating departments and attendees have a great event.”
