MANSFIELD — Superintendent Teresa Murphy and Principal David McGovern are pleased to announce that Qualters Middle School has released the 2022 edition of their student publication, “The Hive.”
The 2022 edition of “The Hive” will be its 14th publication. It has been published every year since its inception.
“The Hive” is open to all students at QMS in grades 6-8. The publication contains photography, short stories, poems, anime and artwork of all kinds. Limited, high-quality, color books are printed for each student contributor and various staff and administrators at no charge.
“The Hive” is organized by English Language Arts Teacher Marissa Simas, who has worked at QMS since 2004.
Simas collects submissions from the student body from September through May, and then designs and puts together the publication. A group of students work together to sift through submissions and choose the ones they believe should be included in the publication.
“Our students are so talented and it is so exciting that they get the chance to showcase that talent,” Simas said. “We encourage community members to read the 2022 edition of ‘The Hive’ to see firsthand all the hard work the students put into this year’s publication.”
The club advisor is Kaleigh Pimble, a sixth-grade ELA teacher who has been working at QMS since 2013.
QMS art teachers and ELA teachers also submit pieces on their students’ behalf, making it truly a school-community effort. This year’s publication also contains four poems written by Simas.
“‘The Hive’ is a stellar publication and anyone who reviews it will be amazed by the many talents our students have,” Principal McGovern said. “We are so proud of all the hard work that our students and staff have put into this year’s publication.”
