PLYMOUTH — Chief Neil Foley and Emergency Management Director Christian Horvath announce the continued operations of cooling stations over the weekend for residents looking for relief from the extreme heat.
Extreme heat is a prolonged period of very hot weather, which may include high humidity. In Massachusetts, a “heat wave” is usually defined as a period of three or more consecutive days above 90 degrees. Temperatures are currently forecast to be in the 90s from today until Sunday.
A heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
During the heat advisory, cooling stations will be offered over the weekend at the following locations:
Saturday, July 23:
- Plymouth Public Library, 132 South St., from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Anyone with additional questions can call this library location at 508-830-4250.
- Manomet Branch Library, 12 Strand Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with additional questions can call this library location at 508-830-4185.
Sunday, July 24:
- Plymouth Center for Active Living, 44 Nook Road, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Center for Active Living will show films on its movie screen and have puzzles, playing cards and board games available for entertainment. Coffee, tea and water will also be available.
For anyone requiring assistance getting to a cooling center, please call the Plymouth Fire Department’s Business Line at 508-830-4213 ext. 100. Transportation assistance will be available on Saturday in conjunction with the libraries’ hours and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Community members visiting cooling stations are asked to make other arrangements for their pets, if possible.
