CANTON — Superintendent Derek Folan is pleased to announce that the Canton Public Schools District has appointed Meghan Byrne as Interim Director of Student Services.
Byrne was unanimously confirmed by the Canton School Committee during their July 21 meeting. She has served as Assistant Director of Student Services in the Canton Public Schools since January 2020. Byrne takes over for Dianna Mullen, who recently accepted a position at an educational collaborative.
During her role as Assistant Director of Student Services, Byrne was responsible for overseeing students from ages 3 to 22 in out-of-district placements, including annual reviews and triennial evaluations, site visits, and progress meetings. She contributed to effective transitions for students and their families, developed and evaluated programs and services for students with disabilities, supervised and supported team chairs, and much more.
Prior to her role as Assistant Director, Byrne served in the District as a team chair/administrator from 2016 to 2020. She was responsible for IEP development, reviewing and observing specialized educational programs, monitoring MCAS assessments, developing multi-tiered systems of support accessible to all students for academic and social-emotional learning, and providing professional development to educators and paraprofessionals in accordance with objectives outlined in the school improvement plan and district strategic framework, and more.
Prior to joining CPS, Byrne was a special education teacher in the Rockland Public Schools and a lead therapist/special educator for the Nashoba Learning Group.
Byrne received her Bachelor of Arts from York College of Pennsylvania with a major in Political Science, and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Northeastern University with a major in Elementary and Secondary Education. She is a member of the Massachusetts Administrators of Special Education and the Council for Exceptional Children. Byrne holds a special education teaching certification and an administrator license.
“Meghan brings several years of experience in the Canton Public Schools and more than a decade of passionate work in education to her new role, and we are excited to announce her as our new Interim Director of Student Services,” Superintendent Folan said. “She is a skilled leader, educator, and communicator. We look forward to her building on the many positive relationships she has already established within the District, as she continues to ensure a high-quality learning experience for all students and a trusting partnership with families in our community. The Student Services department is in good hands.”
The District will be coordinating “meet and greet” opportunities in August for school community members to engage and connect with Byrne. Additionally, the District will be posting for an Interim Assistant Director of Student Services in the coming days.
